Mosaic Republic is a boutique artisan studio specialising in the creation of authentic mosaics.
Award-winning Director, Fabian Scaunich, is Australia’s leading mosaicista. He founded Mosaic Republic in 2010 after successfully graduating from the world renowned Scuola Mosaicisti del Friuli in Spilimbergo, Italy.
When it comes to mosaic, Fabian and his team of professionally qualified mosaic artisans have proven that anything is possible. With an impressive repertoire of commissioned work including portraits, wall art, feature walls, floors, signage, and sculptures, their creativity and innovation continue to provide new meaning to this ancient craft. Likewise, no style is off limits. Their breadth of expertise spans Roman, traditional, Byzantine, geometric and modern styles, to name a few.
Every mosaic is hand-made using the finest materials, ensuring that every mosaic created will last lifetimes.

HISTORY
History
We offer uniquely designed products that maintain a level of quality craftsmanship from a bygone era.
Italian mosaicisti (mosaic artisans) and terrazzieri (terrazzo floor artisans) were responsible for installing many landmark mosaics and terrazzo floors across Australia during the 1800s and 1900s. Some examples include the Block Arcade, Melbourne; St Patrick's Cathedral, Melbourne; ‘Tasman’s Map’, The State Library of New South Wales; the Former Stock Exchange Building, Melbourne; and the Brisbane Arcade (all heritage listed).
Unfortunately, the high manual workmanship involved in mosaic and terrazzo/mosaic floors, together with the growth in mechanical and mass-produced tiling, meant that the use of these mediums virtually died out in the 1960s.
However with Fabian Scaunich’s award-winning talent at its core, Mosaic Republic is redefining this old-world craft. Through the use of movement, texture and colour, Fabian and his team are reinventing mosaics to suit modern contexts and tastes.
Mosaic Republic are dedicated to upholding age-old values and practices. Like the early artisans, traditional methods of manufacturing and installation are employed, which have remained exclusively manual over the centuries. The use of modern high tech products and adhesives ensure a very high level of quality and attention to detail, guaranteeing that all products will last many lifetimes.
Indeed, Mosaic Republic are proud to create products that exude a functional, timeless beauty. All products retain the same level of function and beauty that have been seen since Roman times. Throughout history, mosaic floors and walls have provided solid frames, as well as a offering a platform for celebrating important figureheads and events.
